The Agriculture Department at Beaudesert State High has been leading the field in outstanding agricultural education for four decades.
The Agricultural Industry has a strong presence in the Scenic Rim, and our ties to local groups and businesses ensures our ability to offer students real-world skills and useful connections to the industry.
Food and Fibre Production (Year 7)
Year 7 students have one term of this subject, which focus on the Australian Agriculture industry, both historical and current. Students learn about plant production and the apiculture industry (honey bees). Coursework is both practical and theoretical.
Food and Fibre Production (Year 8)
As in Year 7, this subject is undertaken for one term by all Year 8 students. It focuses on two topics: plant production and poultry. In plant production, students examine the variables around plant growth. In the poultry component, students experience the incubation and hatching of chicks, using the Agriculture Department's incubators.
Food and Fibre Production (Year 9)
In Year 9, Food and Fibre production is an elective subject. It focuses on the Australian sheep industry, and the Australian dairy industry. Coursework for the first unit involves designing a theoretical sheep farm. Although the main focus in on animals (sheep), the subject also incorporates some study of plants when looking at pasture, and feeding of sheep. The second unit, focusing on the dairy industry, examines calf production by collecting data on the growth of our own dairy calves. This data is used by the local dairy industry.
Food and Fibre Production (Year 10)
This subject is undertaken for the full 4 terms of Year 10, and involves comprehensive study of a number of areas of the Agricultural industry. It includes:
- vegetable production
- livestock behaviour
- fencing construction
- operation of agricultural machinery
