This subject focuses on the study of children aged from birth to five years. At this key stage of childhood, carers and educators play a significant role in supporting the child in their development, socially, emotionally and educationally.
In this subject, students explore the fundamentals of supporting development through play-based learning. Both theory and practical work are combined, by analysing various learning activities, and then designing new ones, using the principals learnt during theory. Students learn how to engage children with activities that include art, music, movement, maths and literacy.
Hands-on experience is gained by visiting local kindergartens, where the activities are tested. Students then evaluate the activities, developing their abilities to respond to the different needs of their charges.
