The study of English involves so much more than just reading a book.
Above all, the ability to understand different points of view, to express yourself clearly and effectively, and to persuade others, are critical skills that carry through, not just into the workplace, but in all areas of life.
Here are Beaudesert State High School, our English curriculum focuses on developing open-mindedness, imagination, critical thinking and intellectual flexibility – skills that prepare students for global citizenship and lifelong learning across a wide range of fields.
Through studying a wide range of texts, students explore how language is used to shape perceptions of the world, to reflect or challenge ways of thinking and to influence audiences. Students learn to develop their skills in assessing what they read, while discussing relevant and timely issues.
Our classes support our students in learning the skills needed to communicate confidently and effectively, providing vital tools for young people as they move into the world.
We offer pathways for all levels of ability, from Foundation English and targeted literacy groups to English Extension and creative and academic writing.
