Education Queensland recognises that modern workplaces are increasingly incorporating technology into many aspects of their practices.
For the first 3 years of high school, students are introduced to a wide range of fields under the Design and Technology umbrella. These include studies in the Agriculture, Food Specialisation, Digital Technologies and Manual Arts fields. They experience both the creative, theoretical and practical sides to these subjects. As they advance through the year levels, students choose more specialised subjects that allow them to tailor their learning towards the career paths of their choice.
Design is offered as a Senior subject for students who wish to develop the skills to move into creative fields such as architecture, digital media, fashion, graphics, industrial design, interior design and landscape architecture.
Design
Design is a multidisciplinary subject focused on innovation and problem solving.
Students develop their creativity through exercises in divergent and convergent thinking. They also learn technical skills to help visualise and communicate their ideas, including sketching and free-hand drawing, lo-fi digital and physical prototyping, alongside subject-specific literacy and numeracy skills.
Collaboration, teamwork and communication are fostered to prepare students for working within creative industries.
Lessons take place in our dedicated
Design Lab, which is equipped with high-capacity computers loaded with Computer Aided Design, photo-editing and digital art software.
