A newly found focus on trade employment and career paths that extend beyond university is providing opportunities for students and businesses at a local level.
Supported by industry liaison officer Mel Frazer, students at Beaudesert State High are introduced to a variety of apprenticeship and internship opportunities throughout the school year. One particular local business has taken it a step further.
Beaudesert Exhaust has a long history of identifying and capitalising on opportunities. Having revolutionised the 4WD aftermarket for the exhaust industry, the Management team from Beaudesert Exhaust saw an opportunity to connect with the high school and provide direct links to a variety of career options from working with vehicles to marketing and sales.
Adam, Manager of Beaudesert Exhaust, highlights “As a local business, we see it as part of our responsibility to provide career opportunities, not just jobs. Working with Mel Frazer has shown us how keen the school are to connect with local businesses by listening to what business needs and collaborating with students and their families to help deliver that. We in turn can provide employment and connections to an industry that contributes roughly $37billion to the Australian economy and increase the possibility of that money being reinvested in the local community."
Joining Industry Liaison Officer Mel Frazer and Principal of Beaudesert State High Grant Stephensen were CFO Rebecca Miller and Manager Adam Cox who came over to formalise the annual sponsorship arrangement with a big cheque.
Mr Stephensen emphasised that “Ensuring that students have learning opportunities and pathways that engage and inspire them is our role as a high school. Working alongside businesses, especially local business that are often run by past students is a highlight for us and we are excited to be working with the team at Beaudesert Exhausts"
The financial support provided through this sponsorship agreement will provide more opportunities for students and staff including:

- Upgraded and expanded student well-being space and the provision of a full-time school nurse
