We have begun the 2023 school year with some key outcomes that deserve highlighting for our wider community.
#1 – Former World Champion turned National Ambassador against bullying in schools Jeff Horn joined students at the school to launch the Bullyproof program. It will reach over 200 year 7 to 9 HPE Students and their families. It was fantastic for students to hear from Jeff on how he learned the skills to work through tough situations. Jeff was generous with his time and stayed for photos with everyone!
#2 – your high school is the FIRST high school state-wide to be recognised as a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Demonstration School. Each year a small number of schools are selected as PBL Demonstration Schools. Demonstration Schools are the schools that have shown sustained commitment to implementing PBL with fidelity and have evidence of clear improvements in student outcomes. This has been a six year journey to date and as we welcome staff from many other schools to show them the change being made, we will continue to always put student well-being and outcomes at the forefront of everything we do.
#3 – Queensland dominated the top-performing secondary school catchments when it comes to increased property prices. Houses within public school catchment areas have vastly outperformed their respective suburbs in the past year, with values rising 10 times faster in some cases, and largely defying the broader downturn. Beaudesert State High School as a catchment area was listed as #2 in the state. The downside of this is less affordable housing and with strong regional migration, an increased demand on infrastructure including education resources. As Principal, I will be looking to work hard with the community and the Department of Education to ensure we continue to resource our students to deliver the quality education they deserve.
And finally, we want to acknowledge our student leadership team for 2023. Students working hard for students and the community of the Scenic Rim.
