Book Week Brings Our School Community Together
Book Week often stirs memories of favourite characters and homemade costumes, last minute panic moments after hours of choosing a character! At Beaudesert State High School we take Book Week seriously .. with a lot of fun! And this year's theme, Symphony of Stories, is a chance for our whole school community to celebrate reading, imagination and the stories that stay with us.
One of the things that makes Book Week special here, is that it is not just the students who get involved. Our staff embrace the fun too, dressing as favourite characters and helping bring books and stories to life across the school.
School Librarian Mrs Campbell said that shared sense of fun helps remind students that reading is something for every age. “At the heart of our school, our library provides a beautiful, welcoming space filled with diverse and engaging literature There is a book for every student. Sometimes it is simply about finding the story that speaks to them. When staff join in and celebrate Book Week alongside our students, it shows that reading, imagination and a love of stories do not have an age limit," Mrs Campbell said.
While the costumes create plenty of laughs and conversation, there is also an important message behind the week.
Reading remains part of almost everything our young people do, from understanding a maths problem and researching an assignment to exploring history and making sense of the world around them.
But it should not only be something students have to do.
Whether their interest is fantasy, sport, graphic novels, mystery, manga, history or something completely different, finding the right book can open the door to a lifelong love of reading.
Book Week gives our students and staff a chance to celebrate that together and reminds us of something very simple – Reading is a life long skill and can be fun!
