Beaudesert State High School was recently recognised as the first PBL Demonstration high school across Queensland.
This attainment recognises six years of consistent and focused work by the dedicated staff who have develop a multi- tiered system of supports that work to understand and deliver a high school education for everyone.
PBL – or Positive Behaviour for Learning works to create an environment that has clear and consistent expectations for students, staff and the community. Working in consultation with these groups, the school has developed a system with the ultimate goal to deliver an environment where every student is supported in their behaviour, learning and their well-being.
It is the multi-tiered approach that allows all students to be supported at their own level and pace of learning with additional support for students provided as needed.
The PBL approach became a fundamental building block that ultimately allowed Beaudesert High students to more easily adapt to the challenges that were forced upon them with the pandemic. Despite the obstacles, the expectations of learning remained the same for everyone making the transition from pre-pandemic and back again a more positive experience.
The PBL system implemented by Beaudesert State High is supporting a new type of student and teacher and community to emerge; a resilient student, a teacher able to quickly adapt to the changing needs of the wider environment and a community with young people more ready and able to meet the demands of life beyond the school classroom.
Beaudesert State High has long been at the forefront of change throughout its 60-year history. This recent recognition adds to our ability to deliver quality education in this region. This is demonstrated with other school principals and leaders making time to visit Beaudesert so they can better understand the process, the work involved and most importantly how the change has positively impacted our students' outcomes and duplicate this in their schools.
